Tomorrow
Print on OHP Sheet, Projector
Size: 180 X 90cm
This poem talks briefly about the milestones in my life so far. By paying attention to the poem, the viewer can see a repetition of the sentence “It will be another day…tomorrow” that demonstrates the passage between the ages and the transformation of my identity through time. I named this poem Tomorrow as we, people, don’t know what will happen in our life.
Support
Wood, Plaster of Paris and String
149 x 61 cm
This work is an installation that depicts the support of my family members, through the pairs of hands, during important events in my life. The balls represent each event, I chose not having put any action to have a relationship with the viewer by making them imagine what it could be. Blue, the colour of stability, has been painted in different shades. Thus, the light colours symbolize joyful moments while those darker ones depict the sombre periods. Depicting the balls in the shape of a wave expresses the idea that life is never straight but rather constructed and varied by joyful and sad events disrupting the individual. The wooden frame is a way of saying that this is the painting of my life.
Me/Your Family
Print on Paper and Wood
81.5 x 81.5 cm
This work is made of two Scrabble boards because I used to play this game with my family as a child. One is in French where I define my family from my point of view. The other one is written in English and I leave total freedom to the audience to define their family with a word with the letters left at their disposal. The goal is to have the audience collaborate and their definition of their family will create the definition of a big family regardless of culture.
Look at my tree through my window
Polorizing Filter, Acrylic Sheet, Wood
51 x 34.5 cm
This work is made of polarizing filters and uses a white light as a source of light to "illuminate" and make the colours appear on the acrylic glass. It works by superimposing two linear filters and a birefringent material, the tape. The work depicts the family tree with the trunks representing my family, while the leaves symbolize the ascendants and other members of the family more or less distant. The important message behind this work is that one person will not share their information freely with another, hence the invisibility of the work at first glance. It is by looking through the filter that this barrier between individuals opens
Appetizing discussions Round Table, Chairs, Ceramic Pottery, Wood, Spray Paint Size: 100 X 100 cm
My family spends a significant part of the day at the table. This is the time when we get together to share our day's events, our views, information, and laughter. It's a time for sharing and listening. That's why we invite friends over for a meal, to get together and share our lives. I decided to redo the cutlery, glasses and plates in which we eat to directly represent my family during a daily meal.
Together
Pixel art
90 x 90 cm
This work is a composition of four objects made in pixels. An object is assigned to a member of my family. The pen for my mother, the headphones for my sister, the camera for my father and the tennis racket for me. Even if each object represents each member at best, we are together also through them because each of us has these four objects in common as a centre of interest. That's why I named this piece “Together."
4ever Light Painting Digital Photography 101 x 67.5 cm
This work is a luminous painting made with a single stroke over a period of 15 seconds. My family is positioned behind the letters to show the double connection between the letters and the members. It also refers to pixel art where the word together appears, "Together 4rever". Despite the different events that may cross our lives, we will always be together. Moreover, we choose our friends, we do not choose our family.
This is Us
Wood, Nails and Strings
57 x 38.5 cm
The book was made of nails and coloured jute strings. Concluding my exhibition with the phrase "This is Us" as I described, through different works, my family. The visitors could learn a part of myself. This is Us is also the name of a series that I found touching, illustrating the relationships of a blended family. The open book describes that my life is in the process of being written, we can't know the future because life is made of perpetual changes.
