Lucie’s World Map
Wool, Thread, Push pins
90 cm X 43.5 cm

I intended to represent a family tree, but instead of people, I chose to use stones to symbolize strength and continuity, creating a more symbolic representation of my heritage. Each stone represents a part of my identity, and I painted a flag on each one to show the different countries that are part of my cultural background. I arranged the stones like a real family tree, showing how my different origins come together. To connect them, I used golden chains to symbolize the strong links between generations and the value of my cultural heritage.

The bond color
Beads, acrylic paint, crochet, image
125 cm X 122 cm

My work represents my family tree with the eyes of my family, and I made the eye contrast more with the picture in black and white. To add a more personal textured dimension, I created a series of bead bracelets in the exact colors of each iris. These bracelets were then suspended under each photo using small screw hooks, which I installed with a drill. This project allowed me to reflect more deeply on how to represent my origins and family heritage through a personal and technical artistic approach, by combining photography, digital retouching, painting and handwork.

Painted heritage
Rocks, acrylic paint, gold chain
125 cm X 89 cm

Each stone represents a part of my identity, and I painted a flag on each one to show the different countries that are part of my cultural background, the flags of my origins (French Guiana, France, India, China and Saint Lucia). I arranged all the stones like a real family tree, showing how my different origins come together. My goal was to create a symbolic family tree to represent the strength and my origins. Golden chains link the stones to symbolize strong family bonds across generations, I used the hot glue gun to fix the golden chains between the stones.

Papa et moi
Thread, acrylic paint, madras cloth
68 cm X 53 cm

I started by drawing my cousin's pics, then I reproduced the drawing on an A4 sheet using a black pencil, before painting it with acrylic paint. I chose opposite colors to create a strong contrast and make the image shine. For the background, I painted a pattern inspired by madras cloth, an important cultural element. Acrylic paint allowed me to create clean lines. I painted madras as the background for this portrait, I realized that this fabric represents my roots. I learned to use acrylic paint more effectively and to play with colors to give my work more impact.

The light of my roots
Ink on Paper
61cm X 48,5 cm

I started by searching for the word ”Light” in every language of all my origins. I chose the word light because my name, Lucie, means light in Latin. I found all of the terms. Then I started training to do every letter in calligraphy. Then I trained to make it better. I chose the placement of each word. After that, I decided to add my fingerprint because the word represents myself with all my origins, with the different language, my fingerprint representing my identity, so both my name and my origins. I used the same ink as the calligraphy.

The city of light
Transparent Acrylic Sheet
21 cm X 29,7 cm

I wanted to do a lantern as it represents my name, my name is Lucie, and it means light in Latin, and during the Saint-Lucie we put lanterns in the sky, so I wanted to make a lantern that still represents my origin. I did like a zoom-in effect with Europe, then France, then the Ile of France, a state in France, and then my street with my house. This zoom-in effect shows my origins in a really large way, starting with the continent, until my house. I chose France because I lived there for almost all my life.

The rain
Cloth, acrylic paint, glue gun, image, gold chain
76 cm X 101 cm

This artwork allows me to explore the roots of my identity through art. In art, it manifests the heritage painted on every canvas, shaping the patterns I create. It shows through symbols, a silent dialogue with history. My art becomes a mirror, reflecting who I am and where I’ve been, with the gap between all the tradition and personal expression. This theme allows me to connect with my past while expressing my individuality in the present. This connects to my artwork called “The rain on baby“ with all my origins that are cloud and rain on me as a baby.

The blueprint of love
Cloth, Cyanotype
243.84 cm X 243.84 cm

I worked on a 9 X 9 feet cloth, which I coated with cyanotype product using a large roller. The main challenge was to apply the product in a shady place before exposure to the sun. To optimize the application with the limited amount of product available, I decided to place the carton heart directly in the center before applying the cyanotype. This influenced the distribution of the product and left some areas lighter than others. With this work, I tried to combine techniques, using cyanotype not only as an artistic medium, but also as a tool for reflecting on family heritage.
