My entire body of work is around the theme of family relationships in my individual life. Family is an important aspect to me, especially after the period of confinement where we had to spend time only with our family members and this made me realize our close ties. However, I am aware that family is perceived differently depending on the culture, so I have minimized the display of my own culture in these works to bring out cross-cultural ideas instead. I have attempted to explore concepts such as sharing moments, and more importantly the influence of family members on an individual. My individual experience, whether it be the environment around me or my relationship with my own culture and others, has affected my perception of my art. Indeed, it became more conceptual where the message and emotions behind the work were more important than the aesthetic aspect.
Most of my work has been done digitally, as it is one of my favourite media. It allows me to be creative because I can quickly make changes, and test different shapes and colours. I do like to have textured pieces that are missing in digital. That's why my exhibition is mixed with pieces from different mediums. I have used and transferred many digital ideas or works directly into physical works. For example, my work, "My/Your Family", was built completely digitally. It is a representation of Scrabble boards where on a specifically French board, I defined my family with symbolic words. I made another board for the international audience, with symbols such as a house, birds and time, as well as words in English. The purpose of this work was to have the audience collaborate by having them add a word, with wooden letters that I made, at their disposal, that defines their family. I was influenced by the visual artist Shantell Martin, especially one of her installations which gathered 2d and 3d. Indeed, the work was not static and was constantly changing due to the participation of the viewers. I wanted to bring this idea of collaboration around family identity into this work. One of the works that stand out for its originality is "Look at the tree through my window". During my IA in physics, I experimented and learned about birefringent materials and polarization. I wanted to use this knowledge to make an artwork. The work will be made on a transparent acrylic board with scotch tape, the birefringent material. The audience will hold a polarizing filter in their hands that can vary between 90° and 180°. The colours and the artwork will only be visible through the polarizing filter. In the end, I focused my work on indirect connection, through messages about family relationships, and direct connection with the audience that is part of the exhibition by collaborating on a few works.
My dedicated space consists of two white walls and a large picture window. I decided to organize my space so that the visitor subtly understands the theme. Each work is placed chronologically, as if the visitor were opening my life as a book. The exhibition is organized in the form of a spiral, with my work "appetizing discussions" in the middle, a central point that makes the public turn like a roundabout. Visitors are taken on a journey around family relationships where they can connect to works that range from digital, to physical, to conceptual. Each work represents an idea or an event in my life but can be quickly generalized and impact the audience because family is central to every individual, everyone has one. My latest work "This is Us", an open book made of sewing threads and nails describes that my life is in the process of being written, we can't know the future, it's a good way to close my exhibition because life is made of perpetual changes.
